The Loire River and its tributaries is a major salmon fishery for France - over 800 kilometers in length. It is the longest river in France and is said to be the last wild river in Western Europe.

The River La Creuse runs gracefully passed the house offering relaxable fishing. It carries with it a variety of fish, including trout, pike, roach, bream and eel amongst others.

La Brenne lies in a area of central France south of the Loire, 80 Kilometres south of Tours and 80 kilometres east of Poitiers and is known as "The Land Of A Thousand Lakes".

Mézières-en-Brenne is located at the heart of the Brenne Regional Natural Park. The rivers in the Parc are well stocked. Most of the lakes in Brenne are private but angling is permitted on some of the lakes by obtaining a permit.   Map reference Mezieres-en-Brenne 32690 .

Carp fishing.

Very popular in France and it's almost impossible to pick up an angling magazine without seeing articles about the masive French Carp specimens. Many of the old Chateau have their own lankes & rivers and although some are still in private ovnership, others are in club or public ownership now. These lakes are rarely emptied, leaving fantastic potential for big catches.

Fly Fishing.

Public salmon and trout fishing is available in canals and navigable rivers but these will also contain other fish such as pike. A slamon stamp will be needed in addition to your fishing licence. You will find that the fishing rights to some of the best trout & salmon streams belong to individuals & groups. This means that you will have to pay the owners for a permit to fish as well as for the licence.

Trout season begins at the beginning of May and usually runs until the end of October.

As with course fish you will need a licence to fish public & most private waters in france.

Permits can be obtained from Post Offices, The Mayors Office & local pubs & bars.

The local french tourist office can tell you where to purchase your licence and provide you with maps and information on where is best to fish.
